I wanted to take the time to feature some of my recent art endeavors on my blog. Here are some I took pictures of using my phone, I am sure I will take more professional pictures of my art as time goes on.
Here are 9, 4x6 canvases each with different Gesso textures and then painted together as a whole. After colors were sorted I pulled them back apart. They are now hung up in window boxed frames.
This was a trial and error piece. I worked with faux grass to create lines, then did a teal layer. I went in and painted golds/bronze colors and then added a crackly over different layers, after which I pulled the faux grass off and painted the black lines along where the grass was and added a few more blocks of gold and bronze. Those spots are more translucent because of the crackle.
This piece is made out of kid-friendly plaster, before it dried I took some oddly shaped fake plastic coral and ran it through the plaster for a unique texture. I then used a blow drier to make sure the plaster did not spread out after I added the texture. After everything set I used different bronze colors to paint it and add depth to some of the texture. I simply glued on the peacock feathers after that.
My best friend, Charles ; ) is a professional photographer. After a photo shoot we collaborated on making light paintings I was inspired to do a painting that had a similar look to a long exposure shot.
I put Gesso on bristol board and then used a fine tooth comb to pull the Gesso through. This created the look in the sky and gave it motion. Essentially the motion you see/feel gives it the long exposure shot effect. I then used other tools to pull through the telephone pole and lines. After this dried I then mocked assorted sky colors of a long exposure hot, blackened the telephone pole and then went through with a silver ballpoint pen to make it look like the stars were moving over time.
This painting may look quite familiar to most of you. It is based on Edvard Munch's
Scream painting.
I am always inspired by the art of other people and get a lot of my ideas from things that I see. This idea was inspired by art that is made out of food. I knew I wanted to make something made out of gum- almost like gum you can find on the walls prior to getting on a roller coaster (if you know what I'm talking about). Anyway, I thought it would be a funny idea to take the gum, which is something playful and use it for something more dramatic. Originally I was thinking of mocking a religious painting from the Baroque era, but the impressionist lines drew me in.
I personally dislike gum and usually get rid of it quite quickly because it hurts my jaw. I suppose it makes the story more interesting that I chewed each piece of gum and applied it by hand. I had to mold them into the shapes and design that I wanted. The upper half was done in about 2 hours and the lower in just under 2 more hours. Most of the gum is the color that you see it as, however, some of the greens and blues have white and light yellow gum mixed into them.
I have plans to add 2 more pieces to this collection... but in the mean time I'm giving my jaw a break.
More art coming soon!!! I have some completed and a few more I am working on. I just have to add the finishing touches etc. before I can post them.
I hope you enjoy them.
