New Art Piece...
My latest piece is a test of my skills from a more traditional perspective. I honestly have little experience with traditional paintings but thought it would be a good challenge to attempt something out of my element. I am hoping that with more practice and self-challenging assignments that I will become more comfortable with drawing and painting techniques I have never tackled before.
Feel free to give me some feedback.

Between the Heart and the Synapse
In 2003 I saw The Receiving End of Sirens (TREOS) play at the Spanish American Center in Fitchburg, Ma. It is now eight years later I am still a big fan. Their music is beautifully written in both lyrical and musical content.
Still finding inspiration in their music, in December of 2010, I started an art piece inspired by their album, Between the Heart and the Synapse. This piece is a collection of images inspired by the album, the tone of the music and time-consistent artwork that mirrors that of the album art. It is rather DaVincian as you will see.
The techniques include; coffee and tea-staining, acrylics, decoupaged hand-drawn images and the use of physical gear trinkets. I hope you enjoy this piece, but hope also that you will check out TREOS in the links below, they are an extremely talented band and are worthy of checking out.
(The image quality is low which leaves out some of the details on the canvas, better images to follow).

Three more art pieces
New art pieces. These were experiments with different techniques and textures.
Feel free to leave comments!
New Abstract piece; acrylic, spackle and foil on canvas. Potentially calling this one; "Mom's Room" as it reminds me of a raw version of my mom's love of mauve and gold.
"Fruit Ninja," yes it is inspired by the game (of course). Crackle medium, acrylic and sharpie. I loved the citrus colors but wanted to do something animated-like, so my semi Spanish Ninja emerged.
This is a few months old. "Sky-Scrapper" is made of acrylics, scrapbook paper, sand medium, resists with rubber cement and nail polish.

Pacific Institute
The Hummer actually has less of an ecological footprint than the Toyota Prius? Come to find out this bias was because of a research report sensationalized by the media, but not backed by professional research and peer review. The argument against the Prius was in regards to how long it lasts compared to the Hummer, which clearly makes sense on the surface- if a car that runs on less fuel still contains materials that are not healthy for the environment and will make their way to a dumping ground more quickly, then yes, it would be a larger ecological footprint. However, current research shows that the too-quick-to report information was biased and politically motivated. Information was omitted or withheld as well.
The following link discusses the background information in more depth. I would like to say that it surprises me that people lie using statistics, but that would be a complete lie within itself! It happens on a daily basis and in places we rarely expect.
